YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Phantoms have officially reported to town and will begin on-ice practices on Monday September 11th at the Ice Zone and their off-ice team workouts at Max Athletic Training, both facilities located in Boardman, Ohio . The team’s training camp and pre-season games will run Monday September 11th through Sunday October 1st.

The Phantoms will host the NAHL’s Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights at the Ice Zone on Tuesday September 12th at 4:00pm for an early exhibition game and then participate at the USHL’s Fall Classic event to be held in Cranberry / Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for three exhibition games against USHL opponents the Waterloo Blackhawks (Wednesday September 27th at 7:00pm), the Dubuque Fighting Saints (Saturday September 29th at 7:45pm), and the Des Moines Buccaneers (Sunday October 1st at 4:45pm).

The team training camp roster can be found below and includes nine returning Phantom veterans, nineteen Division I college committed players, one NHL Draft pick (goaltender Wouter Peeters, 2016 3rd Round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks), three goaltenders, eight defensemen, and seventeen forwards. The players will be battling to make the club’s opening day roster.

Four incoming players attended NHL Rookie / Development Camp this past off-season including forward Michael Regush (Minnesota Wild), forward  Dalton Huner (New York Islanders), Wouter Peeters (Chicago Blackhawks), defenseman Michael Joyaux (Columbus Blue Jackets).

Goaltender Wouter Peeters and forward Nicolas Werbik will miss the beginning of Youngstown’s training camp as both players will be attending NHL Rookie Camps and competing in the NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. Peeters with the Chicago Blackhwaks as one of their former draft selections and Werbik with the New York Rangers as a free agent invitee.

Returning Phantoms’ forward and Yale University commit Curtis Hall will head to Buffalo, New York during training camp to participate in this year’s CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game to be held Thursday September 21st. Hall, the Chargrin Falls, Ohio native, looks to be the next in a long line of NHL drafted players from the Phantoms organization coming up in the June 2018 NHL Entry Draft to be held in Dallas, Texas.

The Phantoms will also be welcoming two new hockey operations staff members during training camp – Assistant Coach Nick Peruzzi and Equipment Manager Jerry Hillman.

The Phantoms’ season and home opener will be Saturday, October 7th at the Covelli Centre in downtown Youngstown. Puck drop will be at 7:05 p.m. against Central Illinois Flying Aces.
