The United States Hockey League (USHL) is unique as it is made up with players from around the world, who come to cities like Youngstown. This year the Phantoms have players from countries such as Russia, Belgium and Canada. All of the players live with local families who have opened there house up.
Host families are an integral part to the Phantoms Organization as well as the USHL. The players get to stay in an environment much like they had growing up, which makes the transition of moving away from their families a little bit easier. Families who have opened up their houses have made a lifelong bond with these players, some of whom have gone on to play in the National Hockey League (NHL), others pursue different career options.
On Saturday, January 20th the Youngstown Phantoms are recognizing these Host Families who have opened up their houses.
