Sparky the Mascot

Sparky the Purple Dragon made his debut at the Covelli Centre on October 3, 2009, the Youngstown Phantoms’ opening night in the United States Hockey League. Emerging from the tunnel at the southeast corner of the playing surface just minutes prior to the Phantoms’ showdown with defending league champion Indiana, Sparky received a huge ovation from the crowd of raucous hockey fans.

Named by young Phantoms follower Nathan Beck of North Lima, Sparky can be seen at every home game at the Covelli Centre entertaining fans and hyping exciting USHL hockey, but his job description covers much more than that. Make sure to keep an eye out for the Phantoms’ Ambassador of Fun all over the greater Mahoning Valley community and don’t forget to say hello and give him some love!
