SIOUX CITY 2, PHANTOMS 1

The Phantoms got down early, surrendering a goal to the Musketeers in the first minute of the game. Sioux City doubled their lead, finishing an odd-man rush just past the halfway point of regulation. Reilly Funk broke a seven-game goalless drought at 10:17 of the third period, but Youngstown could get no closer. Sioux City hung on for the 2-1 victory, snapping the Phantoms’ two-game winning streak.

Youngstown got out to a quick start, using John Beaton’s third goal of the year to jump out to a 1-0 lead before the game was 40 seconds old. Sioux City tied it just over three minutes later, and the game went to the first intermission knotted at 1-1. Trevor Kuntar snapped a wrister into the Musketeer net at 8:09 of the second to put the Phantoms ahead. Reilly Funk scored for the second time in two nights, redirecting a shot in for a power play goal 1:27 after Kuntar’s marker. Jan Kern put home a rebound at 3:41 of the third for his first goal as a Phantom to make up the final margin. Dominic Basse earned the weekend split in net, stopping 25-of-26.
