YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms have acquired veteran USHL defenseman Michael Joyaux from the Omaha Lancers in exchange for two 2018 draft choices.

Joyaux of Bloomingdale, IL is a 5’10”, 175 pound defenseman. The 2017-2018 season will be Joyaux’s fourth full season in the United States Hockey League (USHL). Throughout his three full seasons in the USHL, Joyaux has recorded 18 goals and 52 assists. He has previously played for Omaha and the Chicago Steel in the USHL and was once drafted by the Tri-City Storm back in 2013. Michael has also had two older brothers play in the USHL (Chris and Matt Joyaux).

“Given we have few USHL returners on our blue line, Joyaux and his seasons of USHL experience will be helpful to us. We felt that he was more valuable than many defensemen we were considering for the draft this past Tuesday.” Said Phantoms General Manager Jason Koehler. “We hope that the change of scenery will help Joyaux excel into the player we feel he can be in Youngstown. We have had a handful of other players here the last few seasons from other junior organizations come into Youngstown and take their games to new levels with our coaching staff, we expect Joyaux to do the same in Youngstown.”

To acquire Joyaux, the Phantoms have sent Omaha their 2018 Phase I sixth round pick and their 2018 Phase II eighth round pick.
