Two-goal night for Jack Malone powers the Phantoms past Central Illinois

YOUNGSTOWN, OH— The Youngstown Phantoms (3-6-0-2) picked up their second win in regulation 4-1 over the Central Illinois Flying Aces on Saturday night at the Covelli Centre.

The first period would see much of the same from the previous night as the Aces peppered Phantoms netminder Christian Stoever (19 saves) with 11 shots. Jeremy Davidson would get one of those shots past Stoever from the low slot at the 13:47 mark of the first frame, but it would be all Phantoms from there.

Brett Murray showed his creativity in the second period as he was able to spin away from a defender below the goal line and bank the puck off a Flying Aces defender to tie the game for the Phantoms.

The Phantoms would pick up another goal as Matt DeMelis carried the puck along the high slot and fired a wrister that was redirected into the net by Jack Malone to put the Phantoms up by one.

Joey Abate continued his hot play, as he found a rebound off the right leg pad of Aces goalie Mitchell Gibson and tapped the puck past his outstretched leg to extend the Phantoms lead to two.

Malone would get his second of the night, this time on the Power Play and he received a pass in the low slot from Murray and would put the puck past Gibson to give the Phantoms 4 goals.

These same two teams meet one more time this weekend for a Monday morning showdown at 10am for the annual High School Game. Broadcasts will be available on HockeyTV and Western Reserve Radio.
