YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms have announced the acquisition of forward Jake Suede on loan from the NAHL’s Lone Star Brahmas and the addition of Phantoms’ Affiliate forward Cade Lemmer from Wausau West High School in Wisconsin, for their weekend series at Muskegon.
Jake Suede (5’8 180 lbs.) hails from Macomb, MI and is in his first full season of junior hockey after finishing last season with the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies U18 team based out of Michigan and playing in the HPHL. Suede was a 16th round USHL Phase II draft pick of the Phantoms back in May and spent training camp in September with the team before joining the Brahmas in the Dallas, TX area. In 15 NAHL games so far this season, Suede has a 1-4-5 line with 18 PIM’s.
Cade Lemmer (5’8 185 lbs.) is from Tomahawk, WI and is only a high school junior – returning this month to his high school team – Wausau West, which is also home to former Phantom forward Kevin Conley (Nebraska-Omaha). Lemmer also played pre-season U16 AAA hockey with Team Wisconsin and was selected by the Phantoms last May in the 5th round of the USHL Phase I Draft. In 16 games with Team Wisconsin, Lemmer had a 6-4-10 line.
“Heading into the weekend and possibly the next few weeks we had a need to bring in some forwards for some important USHL Eastern Division games,” said Phantoms’ General Manager Jason Koehler. “Based on availability and talent – we felt these two young men could come in and help and bring a little boost to the forward group. We have a strong familiarity with Jake Suede and he has experience with us during training camp and the pre-season so he has a feel for what we want, need, and expect – he’s also playing junior hockey already in a great league and for a good coach in Dan Wildfong with Lone Star, so we know he’ll come in prepared while here with us. Jake can play centre, wing, and can be a valuable utility player with us. Cade Lemmer comes in for his first taste of junior hockey with us but we feel he plays a “junior style game” already. Cade is definitely a “Phantom” and our coaching staff has already been able to see the last two seasons how intense and energetic he is. We expect Cade to play like he has been shot out of a cannon this weekend and help our club immediately.”
